JLP challenges Madame PM to call elections now
The JLP officially launched its general election campaign with a promise to "out-organise" the ruling People's National Party (PNP) and challenged Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to name the date now. Simpson Miller, won the presidency of the People's National Party in March this year and by default became, the new, and Jamaica's first female prime minister, is widely expected to seek her own mandate this year. The JLP said it would stage a five-day coastal road tour into 35 constituencies and more than 150 communities. The JLP has been out of government since 1989 when the PNP, at the time led by Michael Manley, returned to power.

The hurricane season is here again
Some people have taken priority in making pre-season preparations. Others are still in the process. However, despite an increase in knowledge on hurricanes and the fact that adequate preparations minimize its impact, there are still many waiting on the announcement of one to begin their preparations. How ready are you? This question was asked to a number of Jamaican citizens. Thirty per cent have made pre-season preparations (mainly owners of businesses), 25% are still in the process, while 45% have not begun.
